3D CAD has overtaken 2D, and for good reasons.
A 3D model shows volume, not just plan and section views. You understand the part better and communicate faster with the workshop and the client. Changing a shape or a dimension ripples through the whole model, which avoids manual rework.
2D still has its uses for some fabrication and detail drawings. In practice, most of our deliverables start from a 3D model, then get detailed in 2D for the workshop.
